A veritable cultural phenomenon, Heated Rivalry has amassed a large global following and a devoted fanbase. The show also invites us to think about and unpack significant and enduring social issues. Join fellow loons this summer for the Heated Rivalry Lighting Lecture and Discussion Mini-Series, hosted by UBC’s Centre for Asian Canadian Research and Engagement.
Each event in the ACRE’s Heated Rivalry LL&D Mini-Series will feature a 15-minute “lightning lecture” by ACRE Co-Director Dr. JP Catungal, focusing on a scene or two from the series. This will be followed by 45 minutes of open small group discussion with fellow attendees. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
This series kicks off on May 27th from 4:00pm – 5:30pm with the first session, EDI & The Elite Capture of Difference – “We are thrilled that Shane is Asian”: selling Equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in Heated Rivalry
- When Shane Hollander became a Montreal Metro, a team executive described his drafting as momentous, positioning this moment as part of the team’s longer history of “breaking barriers”. This lightning lecture and discussion will focus on the presence of EDI (equity, diversity and inclusion) initiatives and how it shapes the hockey world in Heated Rivalry.
The Heated Rivalry LL&D Mini-Series is a feature event of “Browning Asian Canada”, a public research and engagement series convened by Dr. JP Catungal.
